The REDress Project | National Museum of the American Indian, March 1–31
To commemorate Women’s History Month, the National Museum of the American Indian presents The REDress Project, an outdoor art installation by artist Jaime Black (Metis). Showing in the United States for the first time, the installation of empty red dresses centers on the issue of missing or murdered indigenous women. Black hopes to draw attention to the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Native women and to evoke a presence through the marking of absence. 10am–5:30pm, Free
The Sleeping Beauty | Kennedy Center, Through March 3
The romantic and timeless tale of a magical kiss and the beloved story of Princess Aurora, her handsome prince and the evil Carabosse. A quintessential classical ballet inspired by the fairy tale of true love’s kiss and the triumph of good over evil. $25.00 – $160.00, 8:00pm
DC Whiskey Walk | Dupont Circle, March 2
The Whiskey Walk is an awesome day of fun, excitement, entertainment and of course, excellent Irish whiskey. Enjoy the best of Ireland’s premium distilleries at 8 of your city’s leading bars. This all-day event is the perfect way to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day. Whiskey Walkers will enjoy a 1-ounce taste of a different select Irish whiskey at 8 different venues in their area included in their ticket price. In addition, each venue is offering specials on food, beer and whiskey to participants. A portion of ALL proceeds will go to non-profit and charitable organizations. $65 advance, 12pm-10pm
Queens of Egypt Exhibition | National Geographic
Museum, March 1 – September 2
Travel back in time with National Geographic to visit ancient Egypt, one of the world’s greatest civilizations, and get to know some of its lesser-known leaders—Egypt’s mighty queens. Learn about the hidden role of women in all aspects of Egyptian society. Meet seven Egyptian queens whose impact helped shape both the ancient and modern worlds. DC Independent Film Festival | Carnegie Institution for Science, March 1-10
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary as the oldest independent film festival in Washington, DC. As a competitive festival, all films are Washington DC premieres and many are U.S. and world premieres. Through screenings, seminars, workshops and discussions with the United States Congress, DCIFF gives independent filmmakers opportunities for their voices to be heard in a way that no other festival can provide. 90’s Bar Crawl | Various, March 2
It started with the dream of a few nostalgic friends who wanted to jam out to the top hits of the 90s one night. Today, we’re bringing that dream to you. The 90’s Bar Crawl takes you back to the glory days — to simpler times, when you used pogs to barter and when you drove karts instead of cars. We bring the crowd, the music and the specials and you bring your best friends dressed in your favorite 90’s gear. $39.95, 3pm-10pm
Sasheer Zamata “Pursuit of Sexiness” | National Theatre, March 2
Zamata has wowed audiences with her impressions of Michelle Obama, Rihanna and Solange Knowles and her recurring character Janelle, a naïve teenager with a dance vlog. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in drama, she moved to New York in 2009 and began performing improv and sketch at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Zamata’s web series “Pursuit of Sexiness” was named one of Variety’s Top 10 Web Series in 2013, while Cosmopolitan named her one of “14 Funny Women to Watch” in 2014. She also serves as ACLU’s Celebrity Ambassador for Women’s Rights. $20, 9pm–10pm

Wine Tasting 101 with David Hudock | Cork & Fork DC, March 3
This monthly class, held on Sundays, is an opportunity for an entry-level, hands-on wine tasting experience. We will identify the characteristics of wines tasted and review why those characteristics exist, maintaining a focus on tasting and identifying wine. We will review the importance of sense, sight, smell, taste and feel, tied together to create a building block to lead the taster to identifying key attributes in the wine. Mardi Gras | Wharf DC, March 2
We’re celebrating Mardi Gras with a community-wide extravaganza featuring a spirited parade down Wharf Street, a dance party with live music from Junkyard Saints on District Pier, and a fireworks finale. The parade will be set to the sounds of Batalá drumming and the Eastern High School Marching Band. Feast your eyes on custom-designed floats from our Wharf friends, restaurants, and retailers—including a float featuring the Washington Nationals and its president—along with dancers, mascots, hoopers, and stilt walkers. #FITDC HerStory 5k | Capitol Riverfront, March 2
In recognition of the nearly 400,000 women and girls living in the nation’s capital, and the 165 million women and girls across the country, #FITDC is kicking off the month by honoring the accomplishments of women with the District’s first Women’s Herstory 5k Run/Walk. #FITDC has teamed up with the National Women’s History Museum to celebrate the inspiring accomplishments and contributions of women with this 5K run in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Alexandria’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade | King and Alfred Streets, March 2
Visitors and residents are invited to don their green and line King Street in Old Town Alexandria to kick off the region’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at the 38th Annual Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade, presented by the Ballyshaners, a nonprofit organization that aims to promote and preserve Irish heritage. More than 2,000 participants will march in the parade, including dog rescue groups, pipe and drum bands, the Notre Dame Alumni Band, historical re-enactors, Shriners and Kena cars, and Irish dancers. The parade starts at King and Alfred Streets and ends at Lee and Cameron Streets. Free, Fun Dog Show: 11am-12pm, Parade: 12:30pm-2pm (rain or shine)
