African American & Black History Art Tour | National Portrait Gallery, February 2
For Black History Month let’s visit the Smithsonian American Art Museum / National Portrait Gallery to explore African American & Black Art History – from the perspective of artists, models and patrons. Our guided tour will include both lesser-known and well-known works, including the popular portraits of Barrack and Michele Obama. $7
A Long, Long Way Film Weekend | National Cathedral, February 1- 2
Before his death in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. remarked that while the nation had come “a long, long way” in its quest for racial justice, it still had a long, long way to go. In this spirit, the Long, Long Way Film Weekend at Washington National Cathedral compares historical and contemporary film, offering a unique opportunity to explore narratives of race and prejudice over time. In 2019, the second annual film weekend showcases Do the Right Thing (1989) and BlacKkKlansman (2018). $15 ($10 Students and Military)
Jack Rose Super ‘Chili’ Bowl 2019 | Jack Rose Dining Saloon, February 3
Two teams. Five chilis. Five canned beers, 10 draft brews. Four large flat-screen TVs. As the final two football teams face off for the title of NFL Super Bowl Champion on Sunday, February 3, we’re hosting our annual Super “Chili” Bowl Cook-Off: an all-you-can-eat-and-drink rooftop party featuring unlimited homemade chilis and craft brews. $50
Jason Moran and Ron Miles – I Am A Man | Kennedy Center, February 2
On the day before his assassination in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood alongside the striking sanitation workers of Memphis who carried signs declaring “I AM A MAN.” Ron Miles, “one of the finest trumpeters in jazz today” (Jazz Times), makes his most compelling artistic statement to date with a night of music from his new project, a record titled after this simple, powerful phrase that challenged centuries of discrimination. $45

Brasstracks: The Vibrant Tour | Union Stage, February 1
After studying together at Manhattan School of Music, Ivan Jackson (trumpet) and Conor Rayne (drums) linked up to form production duo Brasstracks in 2014. In August 2016 Ivan and Conor produced arguably the biggest Hip Hop record of the year with Chance The Rappers ‘No Problem’ feat Lil Wayne and 2Chainz. This led to a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rap Song to add to Ivan’s nomination for his writing contribution to Anderson Paak’s ‘Am I Wrong’. Their most recent project “For Those Who Know Part 1” was released Oct 20th. Now they enter the next chapter with the release of new single “Vibrant” and “The Vibrant Tour”.

District Soul Food Grand Opening | District Soul Food, February 2
District Soul Food Restaurant is a new restaurant in the heart of barracks row in Capitol Hill. Executive Chef, John Fearrington will bring a menu strongly influenced by Southern flavors.
District Soul Food Restaurant and Lounge will operate as a restaurant, Cigar Lounge, accompanied with a food truck and catering services for special events.
ICE YARDS 2019 | The Yards DC, February 2
DC’S ADULT WINTER FESTIVAL! Now in its fifth year, Ice Yards has become the event of the season as DC’s only adult-friendly winter wonderland. Back by popular demand are icy cocktails and local DC brews, interactive ice activities, live music, and more. $10
DC Polar Bear Plunge | Capitol RiverFront – Yards Park, February 2
The Polar Plunge is a very cool way for the community to come out and show their support for Special Olympics DC. Two above- ground swimming pools will be erected and participants will “take the plunge” to the cheers of the crowd! The Polar Plunge and ICE YARDS will be joining forces this year to take the frozen fun to another level! The event will include an ice bar, live music, interactive ice activities, food vendors from neighborhood favorites and so much more! Free to watch. $10 for ‘Plungers’
